Packed Up and Ready to GO! |
Well June 10, 2013 is finally here and tomorrow Rick Kellogg and I leave on our trip to Alaska. This trip has been on my "Bucket List" since 2010 when I first dreamed of going. Our plans are to ride up through TN, KY IL, WI, MN, ND and cross the Canada boarder at Portal ND. From there, we will work our way north west across Canada stopping for the night in Regina SK, Edmonton AB, Charlie Lake BC, Muncho Lake BC, Johnsons Crossing YT and Beaver Creek YT. Best I can estimate this will be a 3,700 mile trek which we hope to do in 8 days. Just a short run from Beaver Creek, we will cross into Alaska where the 2nd part of our journey will begin. As planned, our route will take us to:
Day 1 - Beaver Creek YT to Glennallen AK - 1 night
Day 2 - Glennallen to Anchorage- 2 nights
Day 3 - Anchorage
Day 4 - Anchorage to Homer - 1 night
Day 5 - Homer to Seward - 1 night
Day 6 - Seward to Willow - 1 nights
Day 7 - Willow to Denali NP - 2 nights
Day 8 - Denali - tour park, pray for clear day to see Mt McKinley
Day 9 - Denali to Fairbanks - 2 nights
Day 10 - Day trip to and from Arctic Circle - Ice Road Bikers, Dalton Hiway
Day 11 - Fairbanks to Glennallen - 2 nights
Day 12 - Day trip to and from Valdez
Day 13 - Glennallen to Burwash Landing - 1 night
Day 14 - Burwash Landing to Haines then take ferry to Skagway - 1 night
Day 15 - Skagway to Watson Lake - 1 night
From Watson Lake, we plan to return home down highways 37 south (Cassiar Highway) and 16 east to Jasper National Park for the night. The next morning we will tour Jasper-Banff NP (Icefields Parkway) and then cross back into the US at Roosville MT and on to Glacier National Park. On the last day of our trip, after crossing the Road to the Sun in Glacier NP, we will begin the long 4 day 2,100 mile trip back to Nashville.
